Program Needs to be Served
The program of the Department of Finance is based on the educational philosophy of the College to strengthen the academic profession, cultivate a humanistic spirit, pursue innovative thinking, and develop a global perspective. Its goal is to give its students a solid, well-rounded education in finance, accentuating creativity and a global outlook. Therefore, it is important for the program in Finance to harness its resources to provide students with opportunities to acquire both theoretical and practical skills. The program aims to meet the rising needs of financial professionals’ capability enhancement in Taiwanese enterprises.
Learning Goals
Financial Profession
Our program enhances students’ professional ability and knowledge in finance through education integrating finance theories and practices. Students are required to take courses in Corporate Finance, Investment, and Financial Markets and Institutions. Moreover, with a balanced emphasis on theory and practice, we also offer Mathematics of Finance and Economic Theory to enhance the students’ analytical and strategic thinking and to expose them to the best management practices.
Financial Ethics and Social Responsibility
To enhance students’ financial ethics and social responsibility, they will be offered two sections of the course “Analysis on Contemporary Financial Problems,” one theoretical and the other practical in nature. These courses are designed to introduce theories on financial ethics and analyze ethical dilemmas that crop up in conducting business. The courses also invite experts in industries to share practical applications.
Global Vision
To foster a global outlook in students, we offer a string of unique international courses, including “International Financial Management,” “International Portfolio Management,” “Fixed-income Securities Product Design and Portfolio Management,” “Capital Markets and Financial Institutions,” “Positive Economics,” “Merger and Acquisition,” “Portfolio Management,” and “Financial Decision-Making.” All courses mentioned above are using English-language textbooks to provide students with international knowledge and topics. Students may enhance their global vision by engaging in intercultural communication through the College’s 43 partner universities (21 sister schools in Europe, 12 in Asia-Pacific, 9 in North America, and 1 in Australia) plus the University’s 143 partner universities.
